HAND IN HAND UGANDA (HIHU) 2006

The founder of the organisation worked for Norwegian Church aid in Uganda in 1986.
He started helping a refugee family, and this was the beginning of the organisation Hand In Hand Uganda, which was founded 1987.
Actually HIHU was just a small group of Norwegian friends. The first challenge they took on, was to build a house for the mentioned refugee family and help the children with school fees.
Two of these boys are still in the education programme, which helps with school fees from nursery up to completed secondary school. This programme also comprises scholarships for higher education. It is all based on personal sponsors for each child.

Our work takes place in the town Mukono, which is the largest and most rapidly growing town in Mukono District and in Uganda at large. All our work is done in agreement and cooperation with local authorities.
The work is implemented by HIHU Board of Trustees in Mukono. HIHU has limited resources and is working small scale. All work in Norway is done volountarily, and the organisation is extremely cost effective.

BASIC PRINCIPLES
Our main principles are that

  • the local partners are totally responsible for the work from the beginning to the end of every project,
  • local contribution is imperative to create identity to the ongoing work,
  • our projects should always fit the needs and plans of local authorities.

PROJECTS THAT ARE COMPLETED

  • The building of the SNE school started 2006. The building is storied with a foundation of 200 square meters.
The foundation and the walls of first floor are built, but the work has come to a standstill because of lack of funds. The need of money to putt he slab for first floor is approximately 10.000 US dollars.
In the same premises we will build a clinic with drugstore, where people should get medicines to a fair price.
W are cooperating with Ugandan health personel, which also are working volountarily.

The teachers at the SNE school are paid a low salary.
